6.1
I can't say if I'm disappointed or not.
With no song shorter than 3:10 and not having released any huge new material for 3 years, you'd expect much. But its the fall that comes after anticipation, this album.
Jason Mraz goes to more jazzy and quiet style. Its all right, but that's it. There isn't much that stands out, other than Make it Mine's a-la-la-lala, a-la-la-lala, a-la-la-lalalalalalovin' part, and the 3-song hammering of Coyotes, Only Human and Dynamo of Volition.
I'm Yours is saccharine sweet and you'll 'try to get back' to listen it all the time, especially if you're the type that's minimalist and mainstream. But to my eyes, it fits nicely in the average section of this album. Lucky is a mediocre duet with Colbie Caillat but Butterfly takes things up a notch with sexual innuendos in every lyric, something hinted at on Mr. A-Z, his past album.
Live High and Love for a Child is similar to I'm Yours, but of the three, I'd prefer Love for a Child. Its lyrics are just wonderful.
Skip Details in the Fabric and head to Coyotes. The album really starts here, and when Only Human hits with the best drums I've heard in a while. Only Human also has its Make it Mine lalala moment, and it comes to the biggest song on the album, Dynamo of Volition, which is the main reason why I bought this album. Speedy lyrics, low tones and random lyrics astray.
Picks:
1. Make it Mine
2. I'm Yours
9. Only Human
10. Dynamo of Volition
